The Vivobook lineup has seen increased popularity in the past few years especially ever since Asus introduced the OLED display variants for the ~$1,000 price tier. While the official pricing scheme might still feel a bit too spicy for budget-oriented users, there actually is a decent solution for this: certified refurbished units on sale from reliable ebay vendors. For instance, right now, on ebay, Prycedin is offering a refurbished Vivobook S14 S5406SA 2024 model for only $649, or 41% off the $1,179.99 MSRP.
One important thing to note right off the bat is that this is not the base configuration. It comes with the most powerful Lunar lake CPU option - the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, which integrates 8 cores boosting at 4.8 GHz, a 47 TOPS NPU and the Intel Arc 140V iGPU. Moreover, the CPU is complemented by 32 GB of on-package LPDDR5X RAM, plus a fast 1 TB PCie 4.0 NVMe SSD.
On the display side, we find the only slight drawback for this configuration. Unfortunately this is not the 120 Hz OLED, but the 60 Hz version. Nevertheless, the 14-inch OLED still offers superior quality with 1920 x 1200 resolution, 400 nit typical SDR brightness and 600 maximum HDR brightness (True Black 600), glossy coating, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and reduced blue light emissions.
Port selection is solid enough for a 14-incher and includes 2x Thunderbolt 4, 2x USB-A 5 Gbps, HDMI 2.1 TMDS video out, combo audio jack and a micro SD card reader. Wireless connectivity is also up to the latest standards thanks to a Wi-Fi 7 + BT 5.4 card.
The keyboard features 1-zone RGB lighting and a dedicated Copilot key, but it’s missing the numpad side. Above the display, Asus provides an FHD webcam with IR sensor and privacy shutter. With the 75 Wh battery, the unit weighs 1.3 kg (2.87 lbs) and its profile measures 1.59 cm (0.63 inches). Color scheme is Natural Black.
