Earlier this month, Intel unveiled the Panther Lake APUs for laptops. Packing up to 16 CPU cores and up to 12 Xe cores for the iGPU, the Panther Lake processors are expected to show up in Windows laptops in the coming months. However, as with virtually every CPU/GPU launch, benchmark results of Intel Panther Lake chips have already leaked.
For instance, we reported last week that the 12 Xe-core iGPU inside the flagship Panther Lake SKU, the Core Ultra X9 385H, is around 50% faster than the Arc 140V inside Lunar Lake processors. This performance also puts the 12 Xe-core Arc Celestial iGPU of Panther Lake much ahead of the Radeon 890M inside the Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU.
We now have even more confirmation that Intel Panther Lake’s iGPU indeed enjoys a 50% or better performance gain over Lunar Lake’s Arc 140V, as several valid Geekbench 6.5 listings of the Core Ultra X7 358H have now appeared online. The chip was seemingly running inside the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 G405AA laptop with 30.47 GB of RAM.
At the highest end, the iGPU of the Core Ultra X7 358H inside the ROG Zephyrus G14 scored 52,946 in the Geekbench 6.5 OpenCL benchmark. At the lowest end, the score was 46,171. There are also other listings with scores falling between these two figures.
Considering the worst OpenCL score of the Intel Panther Lake chip, the Core Ultra X7 358H’s iGPU is around 49% faster than the fastest Arc 140V sample in our database. The performance increases to a massive 70.5% when using the best score of the Intel Panther Lake APU.
A similar story plays out when we compare the Arc iGPU of the Core Ultra X7 358H to the AMD Radeon 890M. Here, the Intel iGPU flexes a 7% better score when pitting the lowest OpenCL score against the highest Radeon 890M score from our database. With the highest score of 52,946, the Intel Panther Lake chip proves to be 23% faster.
Simply put, Intel’s Arc Celestial iGPU inside the Panther Lake chips appears to bring a big performance boost over the current crop of low-power iGPUs like the Arc 140V and Radeon 890M. Granted, these are preliminary scores that could be painting the Core Ultra X7 358H in a much better light than it is. However, so far, all things point to Intel’s official claim of a 50% graphics performance improvement over Lunar Lake being accurate.
