Real PS5 console or not: Leaked image of alleged real-life PlayStation 5 console in a factory has fans divided over its authenticity
A single photo that was apparently taken from a Discord server has started being posted on numerous forums and social media due to it containing what appears to be a real-life PS5 console. Fans have been passionately discussing whether the image is real or fake, with the argument seemingly fairly split at the moment between the two camps.
The image, which shows three men in a factory with one holding the supposed PS5 hardware (or at least one of the “wings”), may have been leaked from internal communications, and there are plenty who are convinced it is the real deal. The console itself looks to be on the large size; however, this was already expected in regard to the PS5 due to the comparisons that have already been made with other consoles based on the sizes of the USB ports and disc drives.
While some have already tried to prove the PS5 factory image to be a fake, at the moment there does not seem to be a clear consensus in regard to its authenticity. However, the internet being the internet, there are already people having plenty of fun with the image, including making the PS5 console look even bigger (see below). Admittedly, the hardware in the picture seems to be missing the console’s curves, but the angle the photo has been taken at could explain the apparent optical trickery.
Some have been trying to work out the PS5’s size by guessing how tall the men are, as it is clear to see the console (or console part) in the factory image is almost as large as its holder’s torso. However, a height of 38 cm/15 in has frequently been suggested for the next-gen console. While the absence of masks on the main trio in the picture has led many to call out “fake”, a verified software engineer posting on ResetEra has claimed it’s an official photo. This item will be updated if and when Sony makes an official statement.
