CES 2024 | Razer Blade 16 and Blade 18 set to be world's firsts with 240 Hz OLED, 165 Hz IPS, and next generation Thunderbolt support
Razer has always been quick to jump on the latest technology bandwagon. For CES 2024, Razer has announced their latest 2024 Blade 16 and Blade 18 models to succeed last year's 2023 versions. Both the 16-inch and 18-inch models are set to carry next generation Intel CPUs and brand new display options.
The processor update will support next generation Thunderbolt (unofficially referred to as Thunderbolt 5) which can allow users to daisy chain up to three external 4K monitors via a single cable. Razer says the Blade 16 and Blade 18 are set to be the first gaming laptops to ship with next generation Thunderbolt offering up to 2x the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4.
Beyond the CPU, the 2024 Blade 16 and Blade 18 will be configurable with up to a 240 Hz 2560 x 1600 OLED panel and 165 Hz 4K IPS panel, respectively, both with DCI-P3 colors. The new Samsung display options are notable as they are the first in their respective categories with such high native refresh rates. Competing OEMs like Asus are expected to utilize these panels at some point in the future, but Razer says they will come first to the Blade systems.
The chassis of the 2024 Blade 16 and Blade 18 models remain unchanged and so they are visually identical to their respective 2023 versions.
The 2024 Blade 16 and Blade 18 will begin shipping before the end of this month.
