According to information shared by Hardware Unboxed, AMD has outsold Nvidia in the DIY GPU market in Australia in the last six months. Per one retail source, the RX 9070 XT, for instance, sold more than 200% better than the RTX 5070 Ti. Other RDNA 4 GPUs also sold more than their GeForce rivals.

When AMD decided to skip the high-end/flagship RDNA 4 GPUs in favor of mid-range/affordable RX 9000 cards, the move was termed as Team Red’s effort to claw back some market share from Nvidia. This strategy seems to have worked quite well for AMD in some regions, as Hardware Unboxed (HU) reported in a recent video that the RX 9070 XT has massively outsold the RTX 5070 Ti in Australia.

HU’s video detailing this data gives us a rare insight into the dynamics of the Australian DIY gaming PC market. The data could also serve as a warning shot against taking GPU market share reports from firms like Jon Peddie Research (JPR) at face value.

JPR claimed last month that, in Q2 2025, Nvidia GeForce GPUs accounted for 94% of the total AIB cards sold in the market, while AMD clocked in at just 6%. HU contends that the actual market share division between Nvidia and AMD worldwide could be much more favorable towards the latter.

Per one of HU’s Australian retail sources, the RX 9070 XT outsold the RTX 5070 Ti by over 200% in the last six months. The RX 9070 had a 70% lead over the RTX 5070, while the RX 9060 XT had a tremendous 100% lead over the RTX 5060 Ti. HU also claims that, for the next-gen RTX 50 and RX 9000 GPUs, Nvidia holds 56% of the market share in Australia vs AMD’s 44%.

Taking all GPUs into account, even last-gen cards like the RTX 4060, Nvidia and AMD cards currently account for around 70% and 30% of total GPU sales in Australia.

To that end, HU also raised a pretty interesting point regarding the sales of the RX 9000 GPUs. Cards like the RX 9070 and the RX 9070 XT have yet to see considerable price drops. On the contrary, most RX 9070 XT GPUs in the US are still selling for more than the official MSRP. This points to AMD seeing no pressure from low demand to cut prices to move more inventory.

In other words, if the RX 9000 cards were selling poorly, as hinted by JPR’s claim of a 2% decrease in market share for AMD vs Q1 2025, we would’ve seen a reactionary pricing incentive from Team Red as we did with the RDNA 3 RX 7000 GPUs.

We have to stress here again that HUs' data concerns retailers in Australia and not regions like Japan, Korea, Europe, and the US where things could be much different. However, if we look at the US market, AMD seemingly isn’t doing as bad as JPR’s research might suggest.

RX 9060 XT is currently the best-selling GPU on Newegg

At the time of writing, the RX 9060 XT and the RX 9070 XT occupy the top two spots in Newegg’s best-selling GPU list. In fact, among the top ten, the RX 9070, RX 9070 XT, and RX 9060 XT occupy seven places. The only three Nvidia GPUs in the lineup are the RTX 5070 at 3rd place, the RTX 5070 Ti at 4th place, and the ancient RTX 3060 at 5th place.

Things look much better for Nvidia in Amazon’s best-sellers list. However, even here, AMD’s RDNA 4 RX 9000 GPUs sit at least four positions in the top ten, while the rest of the list is dominated by the RTX 50 series cards. For instance, the XFX Radeon RX 9060 XT OC occupies the 4th place, while the Asus TUF RTX 5070 Ti is at the first.

All in all, AMD seems to have sold a lot of RX 9000 GPUs, and demand is showing no signs of any slowdowns. If the company can keep this momentum in the next generation, where Team Red is expected to re-enter the high/flagship arena, we could see a measurable dent in Nvidia’s DIY gaming market share.
