RTX 4090 performs astoundingly in Overwatch 2 in official Nvidia benchmarks
Blizzard launched its highly anticipated hero shooter Overwatch 2 on October 4. To mark the occasion, Nvidia has released official charts depicting the performance of the RTX 4090, the RTX 4080 SKUs, and three RTX 30 series GPUs in the game. Based on Nvidia’s figures, the RTX 4090 manages to produce over 500 fps at 1440p.
The RTX 4090, Team Green’s Lovelace flagship with 16,382 CUDA cores, clocks 507 fps. Per Nvidia, Blizzard actually lifted Overwatch 2’s frame rate cap from 400 to 600 fps because the Lovelace GPUs are so powerful. Interestingly, the RTX 4080 16 GB and 12 GB cards produce significantly different frame rates with 368 and 296 fps respectively. Such a significant performance disparity between the two “RTX 4080” cards reinforces the widely-held opinion that the RTX 4080 12 GB is an 80-class board in only the name and it would’ve been more appropriate as an RTX 4070.
Moving on, the RTX 30 series cards are also no slouch in Overwatch 2. For instance, even the RTX 3060, a low-to-mid-level Ampere board boasts 122 fps at 1440p with Ultra settings.
Aside from the frame rates, Nvidia has also touched on the system latency numbers. The company claims that, with Nvidia Reflex on, there is only an 8 ms system latency with the RTX 4090. However, the latency increases as we move down the product stack. For instance, with the RTX 4080 SKUs, users can expect up to 10 ms latency while the RTX 30 series cards range from 11 ms for the RTX 3080 to 18 ms for the RTX 3060.
All in all, the RTX 40 series boards especially the RTX 4090 are looking incredible based on recent reports. All we need now are independent reviews to see how well the performance of the Lovelace cards scales with different titles and content creation workloads.
