The RTX Titan series might never see the light of day anymore, but signs pointing to the development of a Titan model based on the full AD102 die can still be found in the wild, as a ChipHell forum member recently posted pictures showing monstrous quad-slot coolers for a 900 W TDP model.
Initial rumors were suggesting that the Titan version for the RTX 4000 series could be specced for at least 700 W TDP, which, in turn, would require a massive 4-slot cooler. Nvidia was preparing such a beast in case AMD managed to blindside Team Green with a last minute spec upgrade for the RX 7900 XT cards launching this November. However, latest reports suggest that Team Red’s top GPU may not match the RTX 4090. plus the Titan beast was allegedly “melting PSUs,” so Nvidia needed to put things on hold or even scrap plans altogether.
Looking at the pictures provided on the Chinese forums, it is easy to see how the whole Titan idea was getting out of hand. The ChipHell poster even shows wrapped-up X-shaped frames along with a profile pic of the hefty dark shroud. One last picture reveals that underneath the shroud lurks an enormous 900 W cooling system with heatsink fins matching the X-shaped frames plus additional lower-side plates and brackets that reinforce the whole thing and possibly help secure the card on the motherboard.
It looks like Nvidia made quite a few of these bulky coolers, yet it probably will not reuse them for the rumored RTX 4090 Ti FE, as this model is supposed to have a “mere” 475 W TDP spec.
