Moore's Law Is Dead (MLID) has shared new renders of the RTX 4070 Founders Edition, following the cancellation of the RTX 4080 12 GB. While MLID claimed to have obtained real RTX 4070 FE images earlier this month, he has now revealed third-party renders based on leaked hands-on images. Purportedly to maintain his source's anonymity, the renders are alleged to be an accurate representation of what RTX 4070 FE retail units will look like.
Unsurprisingly, the Founders Edition model is a dual-slot graphics card with opposing axial fans. In other words, the RTX 4070 FE resembles the RTX 3070 Ti FE, rather than the RTX 3070 FE. Like Founders Edition versions of the RTX 4080 16 GB and RTX 4090, the RTX 4070 FE features a full-width fan to maximise airflow. Currently, MLID believes that the renders are '99% accurate', although we would not rule out NVIDIA making minor changes between this prototype and retail units.
Similarly, MLID expects the RTX 4070 to be a rebadged RTX 4080 12 GB, albeit with tweaked specifications. For reference, the RTX 4080 12 GB relied on the AD104 GPU and contained 7,680 CUDA cores, along with GDDR6X VRAM like its 16 GB counterpart. Presumably, the RTX 4070 will arrive with not only lesser specifications than the RTX 4080 12 GB, but also a lower price tag to match. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen how aggressive NVIDIA will be, or whether it will stick close to the US$899 launch price it announced for the RTX 4080 12 GB.
