We reported recently that Nvidia was developing an RTX Titan based on the Ada Lovelace GPU architecture with a 600-700 W power limit and a gigantic four-slot cooler. The development of the card was allegedly put on hold because the GPU was melting PSUs, tripping breakers, and even destroying itself. The report might have been true as kopite7kimi, a hardware leaker with a good track record, now claims that Titan may never come out.
Kopite alleges on Twitter that “We won't see Titan of Ada Lovelace.” If true, it could mean that Nvidia sees no need to develop an overpowered RTX Titan Ada because the company expects to have the performance crown vs the RDNA 3-based RX 7000 GPUs from AMD. On the other hand, it could also mean that the supposedly “melting PSUs” have discouraged Team Green from pushing the limits of Ada further.
That said, the leaker indicates in another Tweet that Nvidia might still release an RTX 4090 Ti in the coming months. The RTX 4090 Ti is reportedly 10-20% faster than the RTX 4090 with 18,176 CUDA cores, a 475 W TDP, and up to 2.95 GHz out-of-the-box boost clock.
AMD is set to announce the RX 7000 boards next month. Although the RX 7900 XT could be weaker than the RTX 4090, there is a chance that AMD manages to impress with the performance of the RX 7900 XT, at least in rasterization. In that case, we might see the RTX 4090 Ti sooner than expected.
We won't see Titan of Ada Lovelace. ????
