Overwatch is coming to mobile as 'Rush', a top-down hero shooter

Overwatch has seen a resurgence in recent months, even before the arrival of the Reign of Talon storyline. Capitalizing on this new life, Blizzard has announced they are working on a mobile version of Overwatch called Overwatch Rush. As the name suggests, it is set in the Overwatch universe but focuses on a more slower and less tedious style of combat.
As per Blizzard’s blog post and the YouTube video, Overwatch Rush is an “entirely new game – not a port – built specifically for mobile players.” It is currently in its early days and the studio is preparing for testing in select countries and regions. It is being developed by a different team at Blizzard, and not the original creators of the franchise, Team 4 – who are “fully focused” on Overwatch.
The almost four-minute video shows a match of ‘Control’ from a development playtest. It has a 4v4 setup with each team trying to hold a central point in the small map. While the complexity and pace of Overwatch on PC and console is lacking, the intensity of a high stakes battle seem to have been maintained.
The game does not have any fixed timelines as of yet and it is unclear when the testing will commence. While it doesn't specify, it is likely that Overwatch Rush will come to both Android and iOS. The Discord server is where fans can find more information and stay up to date with the progress. “Our mission is to continue to expand the Overwatch universe by bringing fresh new adventures to players across all platforms. We'll continue to keep you updated on how things are progressing,” says the Overwatch Rush team.
