Overwatch quickly became a global phenomenon after its release in May of 2016. While the PvP shooter has gotten its fair share of major updates, gamers have been hotly anticipating a sequel. That sequel may show its face at BlizzCon this weekend.
Citing sources working at BlizzCon and a BlizzCon training document it obtained, ESPN reports that Blizzard is set to announce Overwatch 2 at BlizzCon this weekend. ESPN claims the training document covers Overwatch 2, which will have a PvE (player-versus-environment) focus. A PvE game pits the player or players against AI-controller opponents. This is in stark contrast to the current Overwatch title’s PvP-styled gameplay, which has players fighting against human characters.
In addition to the new playstyle and game modes, Overwatch 2 is expected to introduce at least one new hero to the fray. The new game will also have a heavy focus on the storyline.
Overwatch fans aren’t the only ones in for a surprise at BlizzCon. The next expansion of World of Warcraft, dubbed Shadowlands, may also make an appearance. Several leaks recently circulating the Internet point out characters in the current expansion, Battle for Azeroth, that have ties to WoW’s Shadowlands. The story of the MMORPG seems to be pointing in that direction, so the next chapter in WoW's storied history may take place in the Shadowlands.
Of course, these rumors are just that: rumors. Take them with a grain of salt, but keep your eyes on BlizzCon this Friday and Saturday to see if these titles show up.
