Since I played both Torchlight and Torchlight II and I enjoyed them, I had big expectations from the third installment in the series. Sadly, it looks like Torchlight III is still far from what it should be. For example, the game hit Steam Early Access on June 13 and I only got the newsletter with the news earlier today.
Torchlight III comes with four hero classes — dusk mage, forged, railmaster, and sharphooter, as well as pets, an upgradeable fort, gear items such as armor, weapons, dyes, recipes, ember cores, and so on. Sadly, the first Early Access week came along with some problems that shouldn't have been there, mainly server-related such as login issues, disconnects, and travel problems.
In addition to the server troubles mentioned above, Torchlight III players also faced multiple quest-related problems and various other bugs. The worst part about it? The game is not free-to-play as it was supposed to be, and US$30 is not that cheap, either. As of today, only 39 percent of the 2,877 Steam user reviews of this title are positive, so if you happen to be a Torchlight fan, you might want to delay the purchase for a while. In its current state, Torchlight III looks too thin for its price. Obviously, those who think otherwise or would like to share their experience with Torchlight III so far should go ahead and share their thoughts with the rest of us.
