Cult classics or shameless Diablo ripoffs, the first two Torchlight games turned out quite successful and the third installment in the series has been in development for over two years already. Announced in early August 2018 as Torchlight Frontiers, Torchlight III got its name in January 2020 and the Early Access version became available on Steam mid-June. Now, there are less than two weeks until its launch.
According to Perfect World's newsletter that arrived in my inbox earlier today, Torchlight III will hit Steam, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on October 13, at 16:00 CEST. Just as expected, the game "will transport you into the beloved Torchlight universe, to hack and slash your way through a brand-new world filled with hordes of goblins, undead and other dangerous Netherim creatures."
The Early Access version of Torchlight III that is available on Steam has been receiving mixed user reviews — a total of 4,799 and 230 recent ones. Many fans are quite disappointed, describing the game as "a mobile game in disguise" or "boring and repetitive" and, unfortunately, this title could be a step backward for the entire series. Obviously, some things will change until the release but remains to see if there will be enough improvements to make people enjoy Torchlight III at least as much as its predecessors.
A Nintendo Switch version should arrive at a later time, most likely in the first part of 2021. For now, the only official information about its launch date is three letters long: TBA.
