A supposed Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC was recently unearthed on AnTuTu tearing up the flagship chart and now the same possible chipset has been found on Geekbench (v5.2). The 8-core mobile processor was part of a device labeled as “asus ZF”, which seems more than likely to be the upcoming Asus ROG Phone 3, especially as 16 GB memory was also recorded in the benchmark entry. The score in the single-core test was 973 points and the multi-core result was 3,346 points.
Unsurprisingly, the multi-core result wasn’t much different than those recorded by Snapdragon 865-powered phones such as the Xiaomi Mi 10 and OnePlus 8 Pro in our database (tested on Geekbench v5.1; scores in the table below are all taken from Geekbench v5.2). However, the single-core result for the possible Snapdragon 865 Plus in the Asus smartphone was a noticeable improvement. As the overclocked variant of the Snapdragon 865 has a higher-clocked prime core, 3.1 GHz compared to 2.84 GHz, then it’s understandable that smartphones featuring the Plus SoC should perform better when the single prime core is benchmarked.
As single-core performance is important for everyday simple tasks, then general users should be satisfied by the performance of this Asus device with the Snapdragon 865 Plus chip. However, if it is the Asus ROG Phone 3, which is primarily a gaming smartphone, then some major improvement with the multi-core result would have been beneficial, too. The iQOO 3 Pro smartphone is also rumored to be coming with the shadowy Snapdragon 865 Plus.
