Leak suggests that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus will be released in July

A report from earlier this year stated that Qualcomm would not release the Snapdragon 865 Plus. However, the rumor mill has been abuzz with several mentions of the chip. Seasoned leaker Ice Universe has now confirmed that the Snapdragon 865 Plus will be released in July.

Ice Universe further adds that the Snapdragon 865 Plus will ship with most flagships released in the latter half of 2020. The upcoming Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Fold 2 are expected to be one of the first phones to run the new silicon. ASUS's ROG Phone 3 is a likely candidate as well.

The exact specifications of the Snapdragon 865 Plus are still shrouded in mystery. Based on the one appearance it made on AnTuTu, the chip outperforms its predecessor by roughly 12%. That number will be much higher, as the test was very likely performed on an engineering sample of the smartphone.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus will likely follow the tried and tested 1+3+4 design of its predecessor. We can expect to see one prime Cortex-A77 core clocked at 3.1GHz, three high-performance Cortex-A77 cores, and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until next year to see ARM's newest Cortex-A78 and Cortex-X1 super core, as Qualcomm will debut it on the Snapdragon 875.
