Sony's PlayStation 5 'reveal' at CES 2020 was little more than a damp squib. All we got out of it was a measly logo and some superficial information. All we know about the upcoming console is through a slew of leaks. Unfortunately, there is no way to verify said leaks, as Sony has remained largely tight-lipped about the PlayStation 5.
A well-revered event such as E3 would be an ideal platform for Sony to do just that, but, it turns out, that the company won't be making an appearance at E3 2020. A company executive told Gamesindustry.biz that E3 wouldn't be 'the right venue' for Sony. It is a rather interesting statement, considering that just about everyone in the industry thinks highly of E3.
It is also worth noting that Sony opted out of E3 last year too. Sony has been a regular face at E3 for quite a long time, and it is quite puzzling as to why they're choosing to skip it two years in a row. Console releases are few and far between, and the company could easily have used the platform to generate some press around the PlayStation 5. It is, after all, one of the most highly-anticipated releases of 2020.
Now, the question on everyone's mind is, just when is the PlayStation 5's big reveal? Sony has several events lined up for 2020, and either one of them could be 'the' event. Let's hope that Sony surprises us with an announcement soon.
