Photo reportedly shows Apple iPhone Duo 2 prototype with major camera upgrade

The Apple iPhone Duo has only just hit the market, and already a first image is circulating online that allegedly shows the second-generation iPhone Duo. As usual, such images should be viewed with skepticism, as their authenticity cannot be independently verified. However, the design shown is not surprising.
It shows a pill-shaped camera module in the style of the current iPhone Duo, but slightly longer and housing three cameras instead of just two. This is at least a vague indication that Apple is experimenting with an iPhone Duo 2 that features a telephoto camera alongside the wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle cameras. This leak follows rumors that Apple has tested an iPhone Duo with Face ID, which would allow the device to be unlocked using facial recognition rather than just a fingerprint sensor.
The second-generation iPhone Duo is not expected to be officially unveiled until the second half of 2027. With almost a year likely remaining until launch, Apple's plans could still change. The features the iPhone Duo 2 will offer will likely depend in no small part on the feedback the company receives from customers once they have been able to use the foldable flagship smartphone for a few months. A telephoto camera and Face ID would certainly make the iPhone Duo a more interesting alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra ($1,799 on Amazon), as Samsung's flagship foldable offers both a third camera and 2D facial recognition.
