Shortly after the iPad mini received an upgrade to a larger OLED display with thinner bezels and a significantly faster processor, Apple is reportedly planning major upgrades for the base-model iPad, the iPad Air and the iPad Pro as well. Bloomberg now reveals details about the three next-generation tablets.

The Apple iPad mini received an upgrade to the Apple A20 Pro and a slightly larger 60 Hz OLED panel in October. According to Bloomberg, Apple now also plans upgrades for the other three models in its lineup in 2027.

The affordable base model with model number J581 is expected to get a successor as early as the first quarter of 2027, with the new model primarily set to receive a faster processor. For comparison, the eleventh-generation iPad features an Apple A16 Bionic paired with just 6 GB of RAM. The next-generation iPad Air ($749 on Amazon) is considerably more exciting, as it is expected to feature an OLED display for the first time, with Apple reportedly offering an 11-inch model (J807) and a larger 13-inch version (J837) as before. The new iPad Air is expected to be officially unveiled as early as spring 2027.

The next-generation iPad Pro is expected to launch around the same time and, according to Bloomberg, will primarily offer significantly better performance than the current model. While last year's model already features a fast Apple M5, next year's iPad Pro is expected to receive not only an upgrade to the faster Apple M6, but also an improved cooling system with a vapor chamber. This should allow the thin tablet to deliver noticeably better performance, particularly under sustained load, such as when gaming, running demanding AI applications or exporting videos.
