Brilliant feature: Why the new Xiaomi tablet is perfect for Nintendo Switch users

The new Pad 9 Pro Max flexes its muscles in our review with the XRing O3. But beyond its immense GPU performance, Xiaomi's flagship tablet also offers an impressive feature that hardly any other Android tablet has. Thanks to its DisplayPort input (DP-In), the Pad 9 Pro Max transforms into the ultimate portable gaming monitor in no time.
Anyone who uses a handheld will particularly appreciate the versatility of this 13.3-inch Xiaomi tablet.
Xiaomi's flagship tablet as a second screen for the Switch 2 and other devices
If the small screen often takes the fun out of gaming on your Switch 2 or Steam Deck on a train, in a hotel or at the park, the Pad 9 Pro Max is the ideal companion.
The large screen on Xiaomi's flagship tablet comfortably accommodates 4 players sitting in front of it. We tried the DP-In feature with a Nintendo Switch 2. It could not be simpler.
The Pad 9 Pro Max connects to the handheld via a cable, and video and audio are transmitted to the Xiaomi tablet as soon as “Display extension Pro” is activated. That is, provided you have the right accessories. You need a USB-C cable that supports video signals (DisplayPort Alternate Mode) and high data transfer rates.
During our Mario Kart session, Joy-Con inputs are registered immediately. We could not detect any noticeable latency, making it perfectly adequate for casual gamers.
In theory, this feature also works with a console such as a PS5 or Xbox in a hotel room, with the Xiaomi tablet serving as a TV replacement.
Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max with 8 speakers
Aside from the large screen, the sound is another advantage. The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max's speakers may not be the best on the market, but they sound better than the Switch 2's built-in speakers.
In practice, having a true DisplayPort video input (Video-In) directly through the USB-C port can be very useful. The sharp 3.4K panel and the high peak brightness of the 144 Hz display offer real added value.
