The co-op climbing sensation is calling it: this is the last big trip up the mountain, but it comes with plenty of updates in tow.

Aggro Crab and Landfall Games have confirmed that Peak's final major content update, The Final Ascent, arrives on August 11, exactly one year after the co-op climbing game's very first content drop. The studios said they've been "hard at work crafting Peak's final Major Update" ahead of the release.

The update adds two new late-game biomes. The Gloom is a fog-choked, ghostly swamp, while The Citadel takes players through a fully vertical medieval fortress packed with hazards like swinging flail traps. Rather than replacing the game's existing endgame content, both biomes will cycle into rotation alongside the current Caldera and The Kiln biomes.

The trailer also hinted at something more unsettling: a monster that actively hunts players as they climb, rather than just the environmental hazards Peak is known for. It's a notable shift for a game whose danger has mostly come from terrain, weather, and player error rather than anything chasing you down.

We also finally get to hear the Scoutmaster speak. Scoutmaster Myres, the towering, skeletal figure who has haunted the game since launch, finally has an official voice in the new trailer, performed by Xalavier Nelson Jr., founder of the indie studio Strange Scaffold and creator of El Paso, Elsewhere. The trailer has him narrating his own backstory as the leader of the scout troop stranded on the island at the center of the game, fueling fan speculation about whether players might finally get the chance to confront or even rescue him.

Shifting focus to newer projects

Aggro Crab and Landfall have been clear that this really is it for major new content. Both studios have said Peak was never meant to run as a live-service game, and they've confirmed that the update frequency would slow down through 2026 as they move on to other projects, including Aggro Crab's recently released co-op title Crashout Crew.

Fans have reacted with a mix of excitement and nostalgia. Much of the chatter has centered on Scoutmaster Myres finally speaking, with players online expressing surprise at recognizing the voice actor behind him and theorizing about what his added lore could mean for the update. Others have simply been trying to soak in the moment, aware that once The Final Ascent lands, the journey up the mountain of Peak will finally be over.
