While Sony and PlayStation have already been vocal in their support for the #BlackLivesMatter campaign, this hasn’t stopped the most recent tweet about the PS5 event postponement receiving thousands of messages within minutes that reveal mixed feelings from fans. Although many have also added their support to the decision, agreeing that now is not the right time to be celebrating a game console, there are also plenty of people bemoaning the fact that they have waited a long time for news about the PlayStation 5 and will now have to wait longer.
Following the contentious death of George Floyd, there have been many protests in over 100 cities in the US alone while there have also been demonstrations in other countries such as Canada, the UK, and Germany. Unsurprisingly, divisive comments in regard to the PS5 event postponement tweet have started an impassioned argument between those who respect PlayStation’s stance on the sensitive matter and those who feel the PS5 event would have brought a brief but still welcome escape from reality. Either way, it’s a very strong message that Sony and PlayStation have put out.
