Possible PlayStation 5 pricing sparks debate; €399.99 for the Digital Edition and €499.99 for the regular model?
The design of the PlayStation 5 has sparked plenty of debate since Sony unveiled its next-generation console. While Sony has teased some PlayStation 5 launch games, the company is yet to confirm the prices of the regular console or the Digital Edition. However, Amazon France may have revealed that the Digital Edition will launch for €399.99, with Sony charging €499.99 for the regular model.
The latter price would make the PlayStation 5 US$100 more expensive than the PlayStation 4. However, the price correlates with rumours of the regular model costing US$499 in the US. The entry-level PlayStation 5 would likely take up that US$399 starting price though, seeing as many companies do not factor exchange rates into international prices. PlayStation pricing tends to be slightly different in the UK, with Sony choosing to launch the PlayStation 4 for £349.99, for example.
Unsurprisingly, the notion that the PlayStation 5 could cost US$399/€399/£349 has sparked debate online. However, we should emphasise that Amazon France does not currently list the price of the PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. Hence, this image could well have been manipulated in some way. We can only find references to it on two 9gag threads, with both images posted by the same forum member.
Even if Amazon France did list these prices at some stage, then they could have just been placeholders before Sony finalises prices with retailers.
