According to reports, Xiaomi is preparing to refresh its POCO C series with another budget offering. Reputedly, Xiaomi plans to launch the POCO C55, a more powerful option than the POCO C50 that launched a few days ago. Writing on Twitter, Kacper Skrzypek claims that the POCO C55 will be a re-branded Redmi 12C, which Xiaomi released at the end of 2022 in China.
Incidentally, the POCO C50 is also a re-branded Redmi handset, with Xiaomi re-working the Redmi A1 Plus. While the POCO C50 contains the MediaTek Helio A22 chipset, the POCO C55 should have the more powerful MediaTek Helio G85 at its disposal. According to our database, the MediaTek Helio G85 is over 2x faster than the MediaTek Helio A22 in CPU, GPU and system performance benchmarks. Additionally, the POCO C55 will launch with a 6.71-inch IPS display that outputs at 720p with 500 nits peak brightness.
Moreover, the handset will feature a 5,000 mAh battery, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 50 MP primary camera. Apparently, the POCO C55 will not serve as the global version of the Redmi 12C. Instead, Skrzypek states that Xiaomi will offer both outside China. However, only the Redmi 12C will be available with optional NFC support. For some reason, the POCO C55 will lack an NFC module. A release date has not leaked yet, nor has pricing.
