Last month Xiaomi announced MIUI 14, its latest major OS update based on Android 12 or Android 13. As we discussed at the time, MIUI 14 drops support for devices running Android 11 and makes changes designed to improve MIUI's efficiency, UI and security credentials. Xiaomi also outlined the first crop of smartphones destined to receive MIUI 14, which included the Xiaomi 12S and Redmi K50 series. However, this roadmap only applies to devices on MIUI's Chinese branch.
While Xiaomi has not released a global MIUI 14 release schedule yet, the company is now allowing people to beta test the OS update, starting with the Xiaomi 12 Lite. To recap, the Xiaomi 12 Lite may not be as powerful as the rest of the Xiaomi 12 series, but it still features the Snapdragon 778G chipset, a 6.55-inch and 120 Hz AMOLED display, a 108 MP camera (Samsung ISOCELL HM2) and a 4,300 mAh battery. Nonetheless, it is rather unusual for Xiaomi to start global MIUI 14 beta testing with the Xiaomi 12 Lite rather than the Xiaomi 12 or the Xiaomi 12 Pro.
Currently, it is only possible to upgrade your Xiaomi 12 Lite to MIUI 14 if it is running Global or Indian versions of MIUI. You can check whether this is the case with your device by heading to 'My device' within the main Settings menu and reading the build number installed. If the build number contains 'MIXM' or 'INXM', then it should be eligible to test MIUI 14 beta. Please note that you must be willing to supply your Mi Account ID and your device's IMEI number before you can enrol in Xiaomi's beta program. You can find links to both beta programs below:
