OnePlus is set to crash Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked foldables launch tomorrow with the unveiling of its own ‘foldable’ device. The company has taken to its US Twitter account to post a teaser clip of the device. At first it seems like it might be a true foldable that uses a flexible AMOLED display, however it becomes clear that it isn’t. Instead, it is more akin to the Microsoft Surface Duo with dual-displays but joined by a single ribbon or band.
The device also looks like it could be a dual-screen case accessory like the kind that we’ve seen from LG in recent years. However, it is clear that the device has a power button on the right side and volume rockers on the left side. The slim edges of the device are also clearly visible suggesting that there isn’t any case involved all but ruling out that potential theory.
If the new OnePlus device does follow in the footsteps of the Surface Duo, that device received positive reviews for its multitasking capabilities but failed with its software implementation. Samsung, of course, has made a number of software optimizations for its Galaxy Fold line that have properly leveraged the capabilities of its added screen real estate. OnePlus has also chosen to launch the device at the same time as Samsung is launching its new foldables tomorrow, which is interesting timing to say the least.

Update: Turns out it was an elaborate marketing ploy to highlight a 50 percent off sale.
