Samsung showcases some wacky foldable devices at IMID 2021 alongside a transparent LG TV
Samsung Display continues to push the boundaries of foldable display technology, with some of its innovations making their way into the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. Now, the display manufacturer has exhibited its latest prototypes at the Korea Display Exhibition (IMID 2021).
One concept presented is the Flex In & Out, a double-folded OLED display that concertinas in an S shape. Samsung Display expects this display to makes it way into tablets and smartphones, although it would not say if these would be future Samsung products.
Additionally, the company presented the Flex Note, a 17.3-inch foldable display that has a 4:3 aspect ratio. When folded, the Flex Note becomes the size of a conventional 13-inch laptop, as the image below shows. Undoubtedly, the Flex Note resembles a next-generation ThinkPad X1 Fold, which we reviewed earlier this year.
Separately, LG has exhibited another transparent TV, which it has integrated within a bed. Apparently, the device is called the LG Display Smart Bed, although it is unclear if LG plans to put this device into production. Transparent TVs are certainly an interesting concept though, as Linus Tech Tips demonstrated earlier this year.
