It is no secret that OnePlus has been developing smartwatches behind the scenes. In 2016, Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, tweeted an image showcasing several sketches of smartwatches dated 2015. More recently Max J of AllAboutSamsung hinted that OnePlus was working on the eponymously titled 'OnePlus Watch', which would have a round watch face - contrary to the square design of the Oppo Watch.
OnePlus' most-recent hardware event has come and gone, but the company made no mention of a smartwatch in its presentation. Instead, the company focused its attention on the OnePlus 8T, a new version of the OnePlus Nord and the OnePlus Buds Z. However, in amongst all the tweets about its latest hardware is the one below, which unsubtly hints that the company is looking to expand in smartwatches.
OnePlus used a sketch from the broader image tweeted by Pei in 2016, conforming with the impression that Max J gave of the smartwatch having a round face. Apparently, OnePlus never planned to announce its first smartwatch yesterday, and only intended to offer up a teaser. Based on past performance, OnePlus will publish more teasers of the 'Watch' when the device is close to being released.
