OPPO Watch 3 launch as the world's first Snapdragon Wear 5-powered wearable is set for August 2022
OPPO's eponymous Watches can be said to be the best alternatives to the Apple Watch - in terms of looks, if nothing else. Qualcomm asserts that its new Snapdragon Wear 5 processor can get the latest generation of these square-faced wearables closer to the Cupertino giant's flagship accessory than ever before.
OPPO's associate vice-president and president of IoT Business Franco Li seems to agree, asserting that the Wear 5 silicon can "bring smart wearable technology to a new level". Therefore, it is just as well Li goes on to announce that the Watch 3 will launch in August 2022 as the world's first wearable with the SoC.
Li also let slip that the Watch 2 successor will come as part of a "series", which might hint at the possibility of an upgraded ECG Edition in the future. That part of the statement lines up with a Digital Chat Station leak pointing to 3 different Watch 3 variants.
The OEM has yet to mention any new or updated health-tracking attributes for the Watch 3, although it is now touted to "delight" consumers with its improved performance from next month onward. Then again, the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 4 might outdo it in these terms, as it has secured the right to debut as the inaugural Wear 5+ smartwatch instead.
