Oppo Watch 2 receives numerous new features in China with extensive ColorOS update
Oppo has brought several new features to the Watch 2 as part of a major software update. To recap, the Oppo Watch 2 has up to a 1.91-inch AMOLED display, a Wear 4100 SoC, 8 GB of storage and 1 GB of RAM. Also, the Watch 2 would run Wear OS globally and utilises ColorOS in China. This month's update is for ColorOS only; Google handles Wear OS updates.
According to ITHome, Oppo has introduced the following features to the Watch 2, along with bug fixes and optimisations:
UI
- Option to keep watch face always on added
- App icons upgraded to ColorOS 12 style
System & Applications
- Added support for instant applications, currently 70 apps in the list of instant apps and growing
- Added calendar application
- Added Digital Car Keys Support for Li Auto Smart Vehicles
- Added Health Assistant called Fairy, a fairy on your wrist to remind your workouts and work on self-discipline
- Added Function to remind people that the Oppo Watch 2 battery has been fully recharged via Battery Health App and notification
- Bug fixes and improved system stability
Sleep Tracking
- Sync: You can now sync your sleeping schedule between your Oppo Watch and Oppo smartphone
- Sleep Mode 2.0: System will reduce brightness, provide bedtime reminders and sleeping tips for users to help them sleep healthier
- Sleep Tracking Report: Minor redesign to make the interface cleaner, added heart rate section to monitor your heart rate pattern during sleep
Fitness Tracking
- Added sports assessment for junior high school students
- Skiing activity added
For some reason, Oppo has decided against releasing the Watch 2 outside China for the time being. The smartwatch was expected to launch globally with Wear OS, though. Instead, the company continues to sell the inaugural Oppo Watch, which relies on the outdated Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC. As a result, the Oppo Watch will remain adrift on Wear OS 2.
