OPPO Find Z to feature Snapdragon 855 and 10x hybrid optical zoom
OPPO VP Shen Yiren Brian took to Weibo to confirm that the company's upcoming flagship, which is expected to be called the Find Z, will feature the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. The Find Z will also feature OPPO's new 10x hybrid optical zoom camera that was showcased at MWC 2019.
The choice of the SoC enables the OPPO Find Z to take on other heavy-weight flagships such as the LG V50, Samsung Galaxy S10, and the Sony Xperia 1. OPPO is bullish on being one of the first to introduce a 5G phone alongside other contenders such as Huawei, Samsung, and OnePlus. The company hasn't shared any specifics yet, but it is verily possible that the Find Z could land in a 5G variant as well.
OPPO's 10x optical zoom camera module uses the lateral width of the phone to house periscope-style prisms and lenses placed at right angles to the rear camera module. The company is all set to produce 10x optical zoom cameras in bulk from Q1 2019 for other vendors.
Shen also mentions that the Find Z will sport a 4,065 mAh battery and that the phone will have a distinct appearance from existing smartphones. He didn't go into any specifics but OPPO is not new to experimenting with out-of-the-box ideas as we've seen with the Find X, which was the first to feature a slider mechanism that housed the cameras.
There is no word on a probable launch date for the Find Z but going by Shen's Weibo post last month, we can expect to see an announcement sometime in April.
