RTX Remix, Nvidia’s modding platform that enables remastering and enhancing older games, is out of beta and is now generally available. The company shared that the platform lets modders use generative AI tools built into the platform to capture game assets, enhance materials, and create game remasters that have the latest tech like ray tracing. The platform has been used by over 30,000 modders from the community since it entered the beta stage. Half-Life 2 RTX Demo has been built using RTX Remix and will be available for free next week, with the full game coming later.
With RTX Remix, modders get access to DLSS 4, RTX Neural Radiance Cache, and PBRFusion 3, and other AI tools. The platform also makes it easier to enable DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, support for which is currently limited to the RTX 50 series GPUs. With neural rendering, classic games can be remastered to look and play like modern AAA titles.
Modders can either create the 4K assets by themselves or use generative AI to do the same. These generative AI tools analyze textures present in classic games and upscale them by 4x. PBRFusion 3 is one such example of a model that upscales textures using AI. It was developed by modder NightRaven and it makes remastering easier, for modders.
The latest example of a game remaster is the Half-Life 2 RTX Demo that will be available for free for owners of Half-Life 2 from March 18. The demo has been built using RTX Remix and brings DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, Neural Radiance Cache for better ray tracing, RTX Skin improvements, and enhanced RTX Volumetrics. The full game will be released at a later date.
