Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 D: China-only SKU to launch early next year with an AD102-250 GPU
The US Government's recent wave of sanctions pertaining to high-performance computing products sent shockwaves through China. The GeForce RTX 4090, in particular, would be one of the many affected products. However, Nvidia plans to get around the restriction by launching a China-only version of the graphics card called GeForce RTX 4090 D, where the "D" presumably stands for Dragon.
Wccftech has learned from its sources that the GeForce RTX 4090 D will launch as a nerfed version of the regular GeForce RTX 4090. It will lower the TPP (total processing power) to a value that is permissible (>4,800). Exactly how much it will differ from the regular RTX 4090 (US$2,174 on Amazon) remains to be seen. Unfortunately, the reduction in compute power will not come with a corresponding price decrease, with the GeForce RTX 4090 D slated to cost RMB 12,999 (US$1,388).
Popular X leaker @Zed__Wang says the GeForce RTX 4090 D will use an AD102-250 GPU. Its CUDA/Tensor core count and VRAM remain unknown. The leaker adds that the GeForce RTX 4090 D will render the upcoming GeForce RTX 4080 Super redundant, tacitly suggesting that both could sport near-identical spec sheets. Furthermore, both graphics cards are slated for an early 2024 launch.
