Lenovo announced the newest Legion Slim 5 Gen 9 laptop with AMD Hawk Point APUs and up to an RTX 4070 GPU in January at CES 2024. In our report, we mentioned that the laptop was scheduled to go on sale in April at a starting price of $1,499. However, as it now turns out, you can already buy the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 9 from the company’s official store. On top of that, you can get the machine at a respectable discount.
The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 16 (Gen 9) is now available for only $1,413.49 instead of the $1,529.99 list price by applying the coupon codes EXTRA5 and BUYMORELENOVO at checkout. The sales price represents a nice discount of $116.50.
Specs-wise, the Legion Slim 5 Gen 9 (16 AMD) on sale rocks an RTX 4070 GPU, an 8-core Ryzen 7 8845HS Hawk Point CPU, 16 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM, and 1 TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. The display on the machine is a 16-inch QHD+ (2560 x 1600) panel boasting a 165 Hz refresh rate, 350 nits of advertised brightness, 100% sRGB coverage, and NVIDIA G-SYNC/AMD FreeSync premium.
On the subject of performance, while we are already familiar with the high refresh rate FHD and 60+ FPS QHD gaming potential of the RTX 4070 laptop GPU, the Ryzen 7 8845HS is the newest kid on the Zen 4 block. Per our testing, the APU is quite fast with multi-core performance in line with the Core i7-12850HX and single-core potential on par with the Core i5-13500HX.
Additionally, the APU brings a Radeon 780M iGPU which means you can, if you want, do light gaming without using the dGPU. Finally, there is also a second-generation Ryzen AI NPU on board for even faster machine learning performance.
Other highlights of the Legion Slim 5 Gen 9 include a 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard, an 80 Wh battery, and a 1080p webcam. The port selection is also quite good with two USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 ports (one with Power Delivery), two USB Type-A ports, one HDMI 2.1, a combo jack, an SD card reader, and an RJ45.
Put simply, the 2024 Legion Slim 5 Gen 9 has a lot going for it both under and outside the hood. At only $1,413.49, the laptop seems like a worthy mid-range gaming machine.
