New leak about next Tomb Raider game suggests Crystal Dynamics will make it a fully open world title
Crystal Dynamics is working on the next Tomb Raider game, which will reportedly be different from the past titles. Looking back, it has been six years since the last installment in the series (get the Definitive Edition for PS4 from Amazon), and the developers are said to offer a lot with the upcoming one. While details are scarce, V Scooper, a known gaming insider, has shared some initial information.
According to V Scooper, the new Tomb Raider game will be fully open world. It will reportedly be taking Lara Croft to India and will be "featuring vast sceneries." The insider shares that the players will be able to freely use "motorcycle, parachute," and other common traversal methods Lara used in previous titles to navigate across a big map "unrestrictedly."
Some of the previous Tomb Raider games did give the players a taste of an open world map, but their hub areas were restricted and not as enormous as other titles, such as Assassin's Creed Valhalla. As for what makes Lara end up in India, V Scooper shares that the game starts off with a natural disaster hitting northern India, which reveals ruins and artifacts of ancient emperor Ashoka.
V Scooper further shares that players will start as Lara Croft strategically racing against a "Society of Raiders and other rivals" to get the powerful relics. The new game is also said to be putting an emphasis on non-lethal combat.
As for when Crystal Dynamics will be releasing the next Tomb Raider game, there's no word from the developers. All they revealed in 2022 is that it will be offering an Unreal Engine 5 experience. However, V Scooper shares that the title may be released in "less than a year" if the developers don't face any delays.
