Sources indicate that NVIDIA will begin sampling GeForce RTX “Ampere” cards by the end of August, potentially in less than a month. This strongly indicates hard launch availability of cards like the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti as early as late September or October. We still don’t know about the timeframe for AMD’s competing RDNA2 Big Navi part, however.

Verified but confidential sources over at Hardware Times indicate that NVIDIA will begin sampling cards in its GeForce RTX Ampere lineup as early as the end of August. This means that cards like the GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3080 Ti could be in the hands of OEMs within the next couple weeks.

This is good news for people looking to actually get their hands on an Ampere card as it suggests a hard launch in September, not a paper launch with limited or no availability. Leaked performance reports indicate that the Ampere GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will be as much as 40 percent faster than the reigning GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, meaning that 4K high frame rate gaming might become a reality.

With the confirmed early sampling dates, PC gamers might even get their hands on this level of GPU power before the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X hit the shelves. While this is exciting new for NVIDIA gamers, we’ve yet to hear more about release timeframes for AMD’s Big Navi card. Current information indicates that Big Navi could make it to market by October or November, which would potentially give Ampere a month or two alone at the top of the market.
