Purportedly, Motorola plans to release more than one foldable smartphone this year. Not only is the company rumoured to have a third-generation Razr in development, it is also believed to have its first rollable smartphone in the pipeline.

LG ceased its smartphone operations before the LG Rollable reached shelves, while the Oppo X 2021 appears to have been nothing more than a tech demo. Evan Blass alleges that Motorola is developing a rollable smartphone though, codenamed Felix. Unfortunately, the Motorola Felix is unlikely to be ready any time soon.

Still, Blass has provided details about how the Motorola Felix will work. Allegedly, the Motorola Felix looks like a compact smartphone when rolled up. However, it can expand vertically to create a taller aspect ratio. Blass adds that the Motorola Felix will achieve this with a motorised screen and a spindle around which a third of its display is wrapped.

According to Blass, the Motorola Felix is 'in very early stages of development'. Specifically, Motorola has not even produced a functional prototype. As such, Motorola is conducting software tests using a modified Edge 30 Pro, its most recent flagship smartphone. Hence, Blass theorises that the Motorola Felix is 'at least a year away' from release, best case.
