Reviews for the Motorola Edge 40 Neo
Motorola's Edge 40 Neo brings features which would normally be seen on more expensive phones into the mid-range market: The smartphone is water-resistant, 6-GHz WLAN enabled and it features fast UFS 3.1 storage. In this review, you can find out whether this phone delivers the whole package.

With an unusually premium design, a great screen, a capable camera and decent performance, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo is certainly the best Neo phone yet. It could also be the best sub-£300 smartphone on the market right now.

So that was all for my full review of the Motorola Edge 40 Neo. And needless to say, this is one heck of a phone for some INR 20,000. What I especially love about it is that Motorola hasn’t made any big, dealbreaker type of compromise to meet that price point either. Yes, there are definitely a few things that could’ve been better here, including the camera optimization, software updates, and the haptics. However, for anyone looking to buy a well-designed, well-built budget phone that checks a lot of boxes, this is a solid choice. It’s a bit frustrating to see that Motorola hasn’t been able to stock it as per the demand, but if you manage to get your hands on one, I’m sure you’re gonna love this. The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a well-rounded budget phone that ticks all the right boxes. But, if you are looking for a lot of power, there are might be better options out there.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a slightly more expensive version of the Edge 40, but not all the features of this model are better. This is an unusual situation. Thus, the weaker processor is compensated by 12 GB of RAM, slightly higher screen brightness, and a larger battery, and the plastic frame is compensated by a much more interesting bundled case. In fact, the difference in price between these models is not critical (15 999 vs. 14 999 UAH, respectively), so the user can choose the option that suits their priorities. And in any case, it will be a good choice in this price category.

In 2023, Motorola managed to surprise many people, and each subsequent premiere only confirms it. The manufacturer, which has been performing very well in the lower price range thanks to the moto G series, has not always shown similar results in the mid-range as well. With the Edge 40 Neo, Motorola has shown how good it can also be in the mid-price segment. Edge 40 Neo is a sleek, modern and sophisticated smartphone in the sub-$400 segment. The pOLED screen with 144Hz refresh rate, 68W charging, smooth and stable MediaTek Dimensity 7030, 12GB RAM, personalisation options and moto-features like Ready For are what makes this smartphone a high user experience. In addition, there is IP68 protection. The camera of the novelty also offers good quality for its price. It can be criticised for low detail and colour degradation in wide-angle photos that require processing in more complex situations, but for everyday use this set will be satisfactory for most users.

If Motorola set out to disrupt the budget market with the Edge 40 Neo, it has succeeded with flying colours. It’s incredibly well specced for its £299 price tag with a 6.5-inch curved 144Hz pOLED display, IP68 water resistance and 68W fast charging with a brick included in the box. The camera setup, and the main 50MP sensor in particular, performs well considering its price point, capturing not only detailed, vibrant images in well-lit conditions but in low-light scenarios too. It’s not quite up to the level of flagships or even the mid-range Pixel 7a, but it’s one of the better implementations in the budget phone market. Performance is also surprisingly solid from the Dimensity 7030 chipset, likely aided by the plentiful 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage should be ample for most budget users.

For an affordable smartphone, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a bit of an overachiever. Granted, the performance isn't going to rival that of pricier phones, and the camera system is good rather than great. But other than that, the design could fool you into thinking that it's much pricier than it actually is, the water resistance will give you peace of mind, and the screen is a crowning glory. You'll also get solid battery life that will last you the whole day. It won't fool you into thinking you've stumbled across a pricier phone than it is, but it does still represent superb value for money if you can manage your expectations just a little.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo impresses with its stylish design, IP68 rating, and high-quality display. Its performance also remains respectable for everyday tasks and casual gaming, and the camera setup impresses with good results in favourable lighting conditions, even though there’s some over-processing of colours. However, it falls short as a performance powerhouse compared to rivals like the iQOO Z7 Pro and Infinix GT 10 Pro in the same segment, which may leave heavy users wanting more. Otherwise, the handset offers a well-rounded experience. Beyond its appealing design and impressive display, it boasts near-stock Android software, a robust battery, and rapid charging capabilities. All of these factors come together to provide users with a solid, all-encompassing experience, especially considering its competitive price point. The handset is available in India, starting at Rs 23,999.

Priced at Rs 25,999 (12GB+256GB – review unit), the Motorola Edge 40 Neo is an all-round smartphone with something in store for everyone. It has a fresh design, smooth display, Dolby Atmos-powered stereo speakers, versatile camera system, swift performance, and a solid on-battery time. On top, the phone boasts thin-and-light construction with colour themes curated from Pantone and clutter free user interface. Overall, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo makes a solid contender in the midrange smartphone segment.

So, the question is – does the Motorola Edge 40 Neo recreate the magic of the Moto Edge 40 in the sub-₹25,000 price segment? The answer to that is quite a resounding yes. It shines in the same areas the Moto Edge 40 did and it manages to do that on a tighter budget. The phone has one of the cleanest UIs on the market, a stylish and premium design, a bright and fluid display, and fast charging. What it lacks is the performance chops that some of the latest sub ₹25K phones serve up in spades. It’s been three months since Motorola launched the Motorola Edge 40 (review) in India, but it still holds its place as one of the best mid-range smartphones in the market. While the Edge 40 is a fantastic option under ₹30K, Motorola doesn’t have too many standout offerings in the sub-₹25K price segment. To address this gap in its portfolio, the company has brought out a stripped-down version of the Moto Edge 40 dubbed the Motorola Edge 40 Neo.

That said, there are more ways in which the Edge 40 Neo can try and make up for its shortcomings. The display is apparently upgraded too, the fast charging remains among the fastest for the money, and the speakers don't disappoint either. Then there's the recognizable design that comes alongside an ongoing partnership with the color specialists at Pantone, so the new Neo is easy on the eyes too. And when it's also that easy on the pocket too - in both important ways we can think of - the Edge 40 Neo does earn a recommendation.

Unboxing the Motorola Edge 40 Neo, the cheapest Moto flagship phone of 2023, boasting a 50MP camera with OIS, impressive gaming performance and excellent battery life. The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is one of the best-specced smartphones for a budget of £300 and here's my hands-on review. First up, that design is stunning. You have a choice of Pantone colours, with a leather-style finish for two of the models. Around front you have a curved pOLED screen with 144Hz refresh and 1300 nits of brightness. And the Motorola Edge 40 Neo also has a stereo-ish speaker setup. That dual lens camera is decent enough for most people's everyday photography. The focus is fast and even indoors, your shots won't look too grainy. However, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo is beaten by the Pixel 7a, if you have a bit more cash. Gaming on PubG, Genshin Impact etc is a smooth and cool experience too.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a real surprise in the realm of mid-range smartphones, with an eye-watering price of €399. It comes in three chic colors, and the grippy imitation leather at the back adds to its panache. Motorola either read and followed the nextpit review of the other two Edge 2023 models or generally listened to the community. The software update policy could be improved further though, with a security patch that is not the latest version. The two main cameras can now not only conjure up fancy shots during the day, but also make you forget the muddy, pixelated mess of yore when it comes to night photos. The screens have always been convincing at Motorola and underlined this ability again with the Moto Edge 40 Neo and its 144 Hz refresh rate.

Though it’s far too early to deliver my final thoughts on the Motorola Edge 40 Neo, all signs point in the right direction. It’s incredibly well specced for its £299 price tag with a 6.5-inch 144Hz display, IP68 water resistance and 68W fast charging with a brick included in the box. It’s also one of the more unique options on the market thanks to Motorola’s partnership with Pantone, allowing for some truly stunning colourways. Paired with a vegan leather rear and a curved display, it doesn’t look or feel like a budget-focused smartphone. That said, I’m looking forward to putting it through its paces in the coming weeks!
