Motorola introduced a new member in its budget-focused G-series lineup, the Moto G96 5G, last week in India. Now, the company has officially announced the pricing and availability details for the smartphone. Available in four Pantone-validated color options, including greener pastures, cattleya orchid, ashleigh blue, and dresden blue, the Moto G96 5G starts at INR 17,999 ($210) for the base 8 GB + 128 GB model. While the top-end 8 GB + 256 GB model is priced at INR 19,999 ($233). Open sales are scheduled on July 16 via Motorola’s official website and other authorized retailers.
Motorola’s latest G96 5G comes as a direct successor to the Moto G85 5G in India (curr. available at $213 on Amazon), which was announced last year. This time around, Motorola brings notable upgrades over the last-generation model in terms of processor, battery, and display.
Let’s start with the panel. Size-wise, the Motorola G96 5G retains the same 6.67-inch curved pOLED display that outputs at a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. The noticeable difference is a 144 Hz refresh rate, a step up from the 120 Hz of the predecessor. The panel is rated at 1600 nits peak brightness and features Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top for preventing accidental falls and scratches.
The Moto G96 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor (up from the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 of the G85) paired with 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128/256 GB of internal storage, with no room for storage expansion. The software side is covered by Android 15, and the company has promised three major Android updates (Android 16, 17, and 18) and four years of security patches until 2029.
The battery of the smartphone is now bigger than before. Motorola packs a 5,500 mAh battery into the G96 that supports 33 W wired charging. For photography, there’s a dual rear camera setup, consisting of a 50 MP OIS-enabled Sony Lytia LYT-700C primary sensor paired with an 8 MP ultrawide shooter. Upfront, you’ll get a 32 MP shooter for selfies and video chats.
