Motorola has now launched the Moto G96 in India after a short teaser campaign. Arriving in the wake of other Moto G smartphones like the Moto G56, Moto G66j and Moto G86, the Moto G96 actually relies upon the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset as last year's Edge 50 Fusion (curr. $299.99 on Amazon). As far as we can tell, the Moto G96 mirrors the Edge 50 Fusion in other areas, too.
For instance, Motorola has installed the same Sony LYT-700C sensor as the Moto G96's primary camera, which provides a 50 MP native output and a 1/1.56-inch optical format. While a 32 MP front-facing camera can also be found, Motorola has only included an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera inside the Moto G96. For reference, the handset offers up to 4K/30 FPS video recordings too across its front and rear-facing cameras.
Meanwhile, a 5,500 mAh battery powers proceedings aided by 33 W wired charging. A 6.67-inch pOLED display can be found too, which combines a native 1080p output with a 144 Hz refresh rate and 1,200 nits full panel brightness or 1,600 nits in HDR mode. Surprisingly, Motorola only guarantees a single Android update and three years of security patches to its new 7.9 mm and 178 g smartphone.
Motorola will confirm pricing on July 9 when it starts selling the device in India. As it stands, the company has confirmed that 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of storage variants will be available in Pantone Ashleigh Blue, Cattleya Orchid, Dresden Blue and Greener Pastures colour options. Motorola has not indicated whether it plans to offer the Moto G96 globally.
