Minecraft crowned as the video game with most cheaters
With a history of 15 years behind it, Minecraft is the best-selling video game so far, with no less than 140 million monthly active players and 300 million copies sold (as of 2023). The game runs on virtually anything, from Windows and macOS to Raspberry Pi, Fire OS, or tvOS. The franchise also includes spin-offs such as Minecraft: Story Mode and Minecraft Dungeons, and a live-action film is expected to hit the big screens next year. Unsurprisingly, the world's best-seller is also the most loved by cheaters, as revealed by a recent study that was conducted by Guide Strats.
The list compiled by the study mentioned above places the following three video games on the podium (in this order): Minecraft, The Sims 4, and GTA 5. The numbers involved for each of these titles are the following:
- 237,193, with Minecraft being the most common game cheat-related search in 48 states.
- 149,118, Mississippi being the state where The Sims 4 cheats reign supreme.
- 120,592, Oregon residents being after GTA 5 cheats more than anywhere else.
Honorable mentions go to Baldur's Gate 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, both below the 100,000 searches threshold. However, the first is the most popular among cheaters in Washington, and the second is California's favorite. While placing sixth, Fortnite is leading in New York.
One last interesting part of the study is that Oregon has the highest number of cheaters, with 720 cheat-related searches per 100,000 residents. New York is not far behind, with 698 searches.
