Microsoft and LG have made one of the most groundbreaking announcements in gaming history by directly integrating Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) into select internet-connected vehicles, transforming the infotainment system into a literal “Xbox that goes vroom.”
The announcement was made on September 9, 2025, at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, Germany. Microsoft will utilize LG’s webOS Automotive Content Platform to bring the native Xbox app to the vehicle dashboard, enabling passengers to stream and play hundreds of Xbox Game Pass games directly from the cloud.
Christopher Lee, Xbox’s VP of marketing, stated, “We’re committed to meeting players wherever they are, bringing the joy of gaming into even more places and experiences. That’s why we’re excited to announce our latest expansion for Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Through our collaboration with LG Electronics, we are working to integrate the Xbox experience into select internet-connected vehicles, introducing a new way to bring more of what players love about Xbox into more places,” pretty much echoing Microsoft’s new slogan of “This is an Xbox.”
LG demonstrated Xbox Cloud Gaming at the International Motor Show by playing a few Xbox games on a rear-seat screen in a Kia EV3, which runs on LG’s webOS ACP platform. Furthermore, this gaming feature is only available to passengers, in compliance with driving safety regulations.
However, passenger players will need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscription costing $19.99 per month, a compatible Bluetooth controller, and an automotive data plan for on-the-go internet connectivity.
After it’s all said and done, passengers need to just connect the controller, launch the Xbox app on the car’s infotainment system, and log in to access their Game Pass Ultimate Library. Now, you’ll be able to play Gears of War: Reloaded, Forza Horizon 5, Doom: The Dark Ages, and upcoming games like The Outer Worlds 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 straight from your car, which sounds surreal.
Furthermore, members will also get to stream a few games outside Game Pass’s catalog, including Bugsnax, Don’t Starve, Mafia: The Old Country, and Hogwarts Legacy.
LG plans to deploy its ACP platform in 20 million vehicles by 2030, with Kia’s current lineup, like the EV3, in Europe, enjoying the OS, and upcoming models like the EV4, EV5, the new Sportage, as well as Genesis and Hyundai.
