According to the Financial Times (via Engadget), Meta is planning to add a display to its Ray-Ban smart glasses. The Meta glasses have proven to be a surprise hit with users, and have constantly seen updates that add more features.
In April, Meta added the Meta AI assistant to the glasses for customers in the US and Canada. Earlier this month, an update included Live Translations, the ability for Meta AI to see what users see, and support for the Shazam music recognition service.
Now Meta is planning an overhaul, adding an on-screen display to the glasses to show users notifications or messages. Currently, users have to rely on the assistant to send messages or control other functions on the device through voice commands.
The on-screen displays will be smaller, and Meta could release the updated glasses in the second half of 2025. In September, Meta showed off a concept for Augmented Reality (AR) glasses with micro LED projectors called Orion. It has seven cameras to track hands and eyes and can project an image directly on the lenses with a field of view of 70 degrees.
