A few short weeks ago, we reported on the Terraria x Palworld collaboration, which would see a cross-over between two indie heavy hitters. Now, part of that collaboration has come to fruition in the latest Palworld update, but it doesn't seem as though the Terraria community cares all that much — or has even really taken note.
According to the Palworld update notes, the new update, titled Feybreak, introduces a whole new weapon class straight out of Terraria. The new-to-Palworld weapon, the Meowmere — which hilariously fires exploding cats at its targets — is Palworld's first "bullet-firing melee weapon," and is so far the only piece of content from Terraria to make it into Palworld. Developer, Pocket Pair, promises that this is "only a small taste" of the Terraria collaboration, and that more is coming in 2025.
Aside from the new weapon, the new Palworld update actually heralds something of a new era for the indie smash-hit, in which Pocket Pair is apparently looking to distance itself from its Pokémon-clone reputation, leaning further into Monster Hunter elements and action RPG and survivalcraft mechanics.

New Mechanic - Expeditions!

New Mechanic - Research!
By conducting research at the Pal Labor Research Laboratory, you can unlock permanent passives and rewards that increase the productivity of your base!
*Some existing buildings that increase work speed will now be unlocked as research rewards.
To wit, a number of new elements have been added to the game, along wth new crafting and resource management features. Additionally, it looks like Pocket Pair may be trying to capture a little bit of the roguelike fever that is going around the indie space now, with a new "Hardcore Mode" featuring player and Pal permadeath. There is also a slew of new weapons, buildings, and gameplay and QoL fixes in the new update.
Ultimately, though, the goal of a crossover is generally to expand a game's player base, and the Terraria x Palworld collaboration doesn't seem to have stirred up that much excitement in the Terraria community just yet. While there was some excitement at the initial announcement of the collaboration, there was also a healthy amount of trepidation from Terraria fans over fear that the crossover would further delay an already delayed Dead Cells crossover. As of the time of writing, a quick perusal of the Terraria forums and subreddit reveal no new posts at all about the Terraria content coming to Palworld.
On the other hand, Palworld players seem to be generally pleased with the changes Pocket Pair implemented in Palworld. Many players even rejoiced at the idea of moving away from the Pokémon formula, specifically because it may help Pocket Pair evade the ire of Nintendo, who has already come after Palworld for its creature capture mechanics.
