Excitement in the community is at an all-time high. Recently, The Witcher 4 was unveiled in its first render trailer, showcasing stunning Unreal Engine 5 graphics and revealing Ciri, Geralt of Rivia’s adoptive daughter, as the new Witcher. Now fans have even more reason to celebrate, as the beloved card game Gwent is confirmed to return in the fourth chapter of this legendary action RPG series.
Gwent became so popular that CD Projekt quickly developed it into a standalone game. However, on December 9, 2022, nearly four years after its launch, the game was discontinued. Despite this, its impact on fans was undeniable, sparking repeated questions about whether The Witcher 4 would bring back the epic card battles. In an interview with Easy Allies, CD Projekt's Executive Producer, Gosia Mitręga, provided a definitive answer to this long-standing query.
"We really love the game and we also always listen very carefully to the community - which we love and it's amazing one. So this we also can say but, I don't think anyone will be disappointed."
Game Director Sebastian Kalemba also made a clear statement:
"It's part of the experience, absolutely. We also love Gwent."
The return of Gwent seems all but confirmed. Whether CD Projekt will reintroduce the card game in its classic form or with some changes remains to be seen. Fans may need to wait a bit longer for clarity on this. An official release date for The Witcher 4 has yet to be announced. While many hope for a 2025 launch, it’s possible the wait could extend further.
