It probably seems like unsurprising news for many PC builders and gamers that there will be stock shortages of the latest and greatest graphics cards from Nvidia. History will likely repeat itself, and there is already some confirmation of this likelihood coming from MSI (as reported by VideoCardz). The company’s US site is going to continue to allow customers to make pre-orders of the RTX 5090 up to launch date (Jan 30) and afterwards, but shipping will not start until February 6.
It appears MSI feels confident enough about the levels of its RTX 5080 stock, as this will be made available for purchase immediately with shipping starting on Jan 30. But there will be many enthusiasts desperate to get their hands on the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 unit, with MSI at least stating that there will be stock available at other retailers. But how much stock will be available is likely to be low and snapped up very quickly.
This presumption is given credence by an X post made by StinceBuilt, which reports that the RTX 5090 launch will be “very rough” while “stock is minimal at best”. Apparently, the PC builder company has been talking to other retailers about the launch, with the RTX 5090 stock situation looking like it will be universally tight. For a much cheaper option, gamers could consider the MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 3060, which is currently $339.99 on Amazon.
