If there is one thing that we learned from the mobile RTX 40 GPUs, it’s that the gaming laptops based on the RTX 50 laptop cards are not going to be cheap. This is especially true for machines based on the RTX 5080 and the RTX 5090. So, following the apparent delay of the RTX 50-based gaming laptops, it is a good option for customers to consider older gaming laptops that still pack a punch but are now heavily discounted.
One such machine is the 2023 MSI Vector GP68HX, a desktop replacement with a powerful Core i9-13950HX CPU and RTX 4080 laptop GPU. The laptop has been among the cheapest RTX 4080 machines on the market, especially during promotions. For instance, the Vector GP68HX hit $1,330 back in December 2024. The laptop has once again dropped below $1,400.
For only $1,389.99, gamers can score an MSI Vector GP68HX with an RTX 4080, a Core i9-13950HX, 16 GB of memory, and 1 TB of storage from Woot. The laptop retails for above $2,000 at full retail. The machine is in “Factory Reconditioned” condition and has a 6-month warranty from MSI.
With such beastly internals, it is not a surprise that the Vector GP68HX is made for QHD AAA gaming. Our measurements show that the RTX 4080 plays the latest AAA titles like Monster Hunter Wilds and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 at 55 and 66 FPS at QHD/ultra, respectively. The presence of the Core i9-13950HX will also ensure supreme CPU performance in both single-threaded and multi-threaded workloads.
Aside from the performance, the MSI Vector GP68HX also boasts plenty of upgrade options with two M.2 and SO-DIMM slots for RAM and storage expansion. So, thanks to an abundance of cost-effective RAM and storage drives on Amazon, gamers will be able to future-proof their laptop.
What’s not future-proof, however, is the lackluster 45% NTSC panel. Despite being a speedy 144 Hz, the 16-inch FHD+ IPS panel is, arguably, the weakest part of the MSI Vector GP68HX. Thankfully, the problem is quite easy to fix as there are a ton of great high-refresh QHD monitors on the market. For instance, this 27-inch AOC Q27G3XMN QHD Mini-LED monitor is rated 4.5 stars on Amazon and it is only $249.99.
Long story short, if you want a truly high-end gaming laptop for QHD gaming but are not prepared to spend close to $2,000, the factory-refurbished MSI Vector GP68HX on sale on Woot is worth checking out.
