The third-party software Lossless Scaling has been updated to version 3. This new update promises gamers better upscaling, lower GPU load, improved latency, and, most importantly, up to 20x frame generation mode.

Lossless Scaling has been around for quite a while now, and at the core, it's a third-party paid software that offers upscaling and frame generation for games that don't have them built-in. As shown in previous tests, it works like a charm in gaming handhelds, offering a better gaming experience on games that don't typically run smoothly on iGPUs.

Now, the developers have introduced a new version of the software, Lossless Scaling 3, and it promises a broad range of improvements. The main highlights are the 10x and 20x frame generation modes. These modes may sound impractical, given that they introduce loads of artifacts that could make the games unplayable. However, they can be an effective solution for running slow-paced games and emulation on relatively lower-end hardware and systems with iGPUs (Z1 Extreme ROG Ally curr. $499.99 on Best Buy).

Of course, the 10x and 20x frame generation modes aren't the only new additions to Lossless Scaling 3. The latest version also promises to offer much better gameplay in the regular 2x and 3x modes, which are the ones that are more practical for most games.

As the update notes highlight, Lossless Scaling 3 also aims to offer better upscaling and frame generation quality, with reduced flickering and a lower amount of border artifacts. The update addresses performance issues as well, promising a 40% reduction in GPU load in the 2x mode when compared to the previous version.

There's mention of lower latency too. Per the developers, at 2x mode, Lossless Scaling 3 can offer a 24% improvement over the frame generation of the predecessor. Another highlight is the revamped UI in the beta version, which looks cleaner than the past versions.

Users who have tried Lossless Scaling 3 are reporting noticeable improvements over the previous version. With the update, it seems that the software now stands as a feasible option for games without any developer integration of frame generation and upscaling. However, it's worth noting that the software still operates as a system-level tool, and even with all the improvements, driver-level or game-integrated solutions are better. Check out the video attached below to learn more about the update.
