Dragon's Dogma 2 didn't get off to a hot start due to its sub-par performance on PC. While Capcom has addressed it with multiple patches, its reviews are still 'Mixed' on Steam. Meanwhile, its predecessor, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen sits at 'Very Positive' with over 60,000 glowing reviews.
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is your quintessential RPG complete with multiple classes such as Fighter, Mage, Ranger and many others. And further possibilities are opened up by letting you mix and match classes in a single playthrough. Initially, its combat can feel a bit tiring, and it may take a while to click.
In Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, you start off in a remote village that gets attacked by a dragon. Of course, you, being the protagonist, survive the attack and emerge as an 'Arisen' one. Now, you're tasked with taking the said dragon. Your adventure takes you through an open world with multiple locations, side-quests and branching storylines. Typical RPG stuff.
Unlike many other games of the genre, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen does not offer the convenience of fast travel, at least in conventional sense. This might seem frustrating at first, but many argue this helps with the game's immersion. That said, if you're familiar with the Monster Hunter series, you'll feel right at home. One of the game's biggest cons, however, is that you can only have one save file active at a time.
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen has been discounted by 84% on Steam and GOG, effectively dropping its price to $4.79. That is pretty good value, given you can easily get hundreds of hours out of it. The GOG promotion expires tomorrow, and the Steam discount is valid until June 19.
