Lenovo's new Legion 5i Pro 16 G7 with the RTX 3070 Ti is a very good Gaming Laptop

The Legion 5i Pro 16 is a very good gaming laptop for 2100 Euros. It offers plenty of gaming performance for the QHD resolution with the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. There are no real drawbacks, except for the loud fan noise.

Lenovo refreshes the Legion 5i Pro 16 and the seventh generation offers plenty of performance. We reviewed the high-end SKU with the new Intel processor Core i7-12700H (Alder Lake) as well as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GPU. The cooling performance of the 16-inch gaming laptop is very good and both components manage very good results in synthetic as well as gaming benchmarks. The GPU can consume up to 150 Watts depending on the CPU load and is therefore one of the fastest models.

Lenovo's own Vantage app offers three energy profiles, which can comfortably be switched via key combination. The Silent mode is a good choice for everyday tasks, where you just don't need the extremely high performance. The fans are much quieter in this mode and often even turned off completely in light workload scenarios. You can use this mode for gaming as well, but the performance takes a hit of 30-40 % compared to the other two modes (Auto & Performance). The fans will reach between 50-55 dB(A) in these modes and we definitely recommend a headset or headphones during gaming.

The Legion 5 Pro 16 is also up to date in almost all other regards with the PCIe 4.0 SSD, Thunderbolt 4, and Nvidia's Advanced Optimus technology. Thanks to the dynamic MUX, the integrated GPU can be deactivated when you drive the integrated display, which does not require a restart anymore compared to old models. There would have been better options for the communication modules, but Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit Ethernet are not bad by any means. The matte 16:10 display with the WQHD resolution offers very good picture quality and is very suited for a gaming system with G-Sync and 165 Hz.

We think Lenovo's focus on the performance of the Legion 5i Pro 16 is a good decision and the manufacturer does not waste any time on unnecessary things like comprehensive lighting options, for example, which would just increase the price. Our review unit is available for 2100 Euros, which is a very fair price considering the performance you get. The model is even less expensive at 1900 Euros when you have access to Lenovo's own Campus program.
