Lenovo offers its 16-inch gaming notebook Legion 5i Pro with faster Intel Alder Lake processors and the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, which offer sufficient gaming performance for the native WQHD resolution.

The Lenovo Legion 5i Pro is not a cheap machine, but it strikes a perfect balance between usability and performance. The display is alluring, performs splendidly, feels good to type on, music sounds good, and all this makes up for the sub-par battery life. It is an easy recommendation for those looking for an all-out gaming machine, and it is a machine we enjoy using. However, one thing to note is that this configuration of the Legion 5i Pro model is not for sale in India. The model that retails in India comes with a relatively modest 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU, a fairly good configuration for a price tag of around Rs 1,50,000.

In this top-tier RTX 3070Ti configuration, the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro 2022 offers a significant boost in CPU performance over the previous generation, as well as a notable bump in GPU and combined performance. Paired with a competitive price in most markets, this is now one of the better-balanced work/gaming laptops in the mid-tier category, and better value than the RTX 3060 model reviewed a few months ago. It's not without some quirks, though, as I'll explain in this detailed review.

The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro is a remarkably powerful, versatile laptop. Though it targets gamers, the Legion 5 Pro’s wide range of connectivity, excellent keyboard, 16:10 display, and adequate battery life will appeal to many. It’s a great choice for games, photo or video editing, 3D rendering, and other demanding tasks. It’s disappointing to see Lenovo ship the laptop with an underwhelming display. Games and movies don’t look their best. Audio is also weak compared to alternatives from Alienware and Razer. These flaws are forgiven by the price. The model I tested will retail exclusively at Walmart for $1,999. That’s less than an Alienware X15 or Alienware X17 with RTX 3060 mobile graphics and beats the Razer Blade 17 by hundreds of dollars. The Legion 5 Pro’s value makes it easy to recommend.

I’m happy with the internal spec improvements that Lenovo made to this year’s Legion 5 Pro, and people who don’t want to spend a fortune on a gaming laptop should consider this model. It’s a fast laptop for more than just gaming, and I still adore the typing experience. Lenovo’s lack of transparency around pricing notwithstanding, the best thing about this Intel-based version that I tested is its price. Considering its power, this $1,999 Legion is still fairly affordable as far as rigs loaded with Intel’s 12th Gen chips go. For example, it’s $500 less than the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 that I mentioned earlier, yet it has a similarly powerful GPU. It’s priced more competitively to Asus’ ROG Zephyrus G15, but with that model, you’re giving up some power in exchange for portability. Lenovo didn’t need to do much to make the 2022 Legion 5 Pro a hit. On one hand, it delivered just enough to satisfy me by increasing the power and adding some conveniences, like faster USB-C charging and a Thunderbolt 4 port. And even with its subpar speaker system and low amount of default storage

Okay, let’s wrap up this review of the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (2022). And it’s no surprise that the 2022 edition of Lenovo Legion 5 Pro gets a big seal of approval from me. Granted its AMD CPU is not as powerful as Intel’s 12th Gen processors, but the gains in terms of battery life and thermals are hard to overlook. Plus, it also has an incredible display and a solid build quality, which makes it an easy recommendation. Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 2022 Design 4The fact that the bulky power brick is the only setback of the Legion 5 Pro speaks volumes. So yeah, if you are looking for a reliable gaming laptop in this price range, bagging this year’s Legion 5 Pro won’t disappoint you a bit.

Lenovo has upgraded the CPU from AMD Zen 3 to Zen 3+ and the 140 W TGP GPU to 150 W for this latest 16-inch refresh. The new model is faster, of course, but let's find out by exactly how much.

Lenovo offers so many gaming laptops under the Legion 5 and Legion 7 labels, with Intel and AMD flavors and Slim and Pro variants, that it can be hard to keep track. Think of the Legion 5 Pro Gen 7 as the poor man's version of the 4.5-star-rated, Editors' Choice award-winning Legion 7 Gen 7—well, not really a poor man's, since it starts at $1,439.99 and is $1,599.99 as tested. But it's a 16-inch, AMD-CPU-powered pixel-pusher that's a full $1,000 cheaper than that 16-inch, Ryzen- and Radeon-powered flagship. If your budget exceeds economy gaming rigs but doesn't reach to the top of the line, the Legion 5 Pro is a first-class choice.

Ultimately, the difference between the Pro and the non-Pro models is not that big. It all falls down to the display, which offers more vertical space, supports G-Sync, and has a MUX switch for direct connection to the dedicated GPU. Everything else is simply fantastic – not to mention the keyboard, which is on another level. We would definitely recommend this device, but keep in mind that if you want the performance – pick Intel, if you need long battery life and efficiency – AMD is the way to go.
